Scripps grows TV operations, exits newspapers

From The Cincinnati Enquirer

E.W. Scripps announced Wednesday it has completed its simultaneous merger with Milwaukee-based Journal Communications and spin-off of the merged companies' newspaper businesses.

Still headquartered in Cincinnati, the WCPO parent is now a television company with 33 stations in 24 markets and also owns 34 radio stations in eight markets. Scripps also operates a network of digital outlets affiliated with broadcast.

Scripps shares no longer reflect ownership in a newspaper company. Prior to the closing, Scripps operated 21 TV stations and newspapers in 13 markets.

Newly-formed Journal Media Group will be headquartered in Milwaukee and operates print and digital publishing operations serving 14 U.S. markets in nine states, including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Naples Daily News, The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, and Ventura County Star in California.
