Rep. Tim Ryan rallies to save the Youngstown postal center

From The Vindicator

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan believes if the community keeps making the argument for the Youngstown U.S. Postal Service Processing and Distribution Center, then there's a chance the center could stay open.

Ryan, of Howland D-13th, voiced his support for the workers at an American Postal Workers Union Local 443 media event this afternoon outside of the processing center, 99 S. Walnut St.

"This is a very important issue," Ryan said. "I think it is important for us to remember how essential the postal service is."

The Youngstown processing center was tentatively on schedule to close in late July, but that date has been changed to "to be determined."

A portion of the operations at the Youngstown center were consolidated to Cleveland in early 2013.

The postal service has said the consolidation of operations from Youngstown to Cleveland will happen, but a date is unknown.
