Now it’s ‘March Madness,’ ‘Final Four’ wording advertisers can’t use

From The Kentucky Press Association

It was just a month ago I reminded you that advertisers were not permitted to use “Super Bowl” in their advertising. Now we move on to the next big sports even — the NCAA championship.. And along the way, saying March Madness or Final Four may be the most frequently used words in sports fan’s vocabulary.

But they can’t. These words are copyrighted, under the ownership of the NCAA, and while you can use the term in news stories, no business can use the words. So if you get an ad with the words, explain to the advertiser the terms are copyrighted and you’re not permitted to use them in ads, neither are the advertisers.
