Judging underway for Foundation scholarships

Twenty eight applications have been received for the various journalism scholarships offered by The Ohio Newspapers Foundation. Judging is now underway to determine the winners for 2016.

Ken Douthit, President of Douthit Communications Inc., will select the winner for The Harold K Douthit Scholarship.

Richard Morris, quality director and general manager of The Daily Standard and Lee Cochran, managing editor of ThisWeek Community News are judging the applicants for the three University Scholarships

David Dix, publisher of Record Publishing Company, Frank Deaner, retired executive director of The Ohio Newspaper Association, and Emily Chambers, group vice president, human resources for Cox Media Group, are judging the applicants for the Minority Scholarship offered to an Ohio high school senior.

Bev Keller, editor of The Sugarcreek Budget, along with Sally Chapek, Pat Edgar, Troy Britton, Mark Judy and Tara Hochstetler make up The Budget team of judges for the ONWA Annual Scholarship, awarded to a male or female Ohio University or college student.

Applicants must be majoring in a field relevant to our industry, particularly journalism, advertising, marketing, or a communications degree program at an Ohio college or university. Winners will be announced in early May. A total of $9,000 in scholarships will be awarded.
